It was a night of significance and celebration for Ashley Hill Lodge No. 7861 this November, as the Brethren gathered at Sindlesham to witness a pivotal moment in the Masonic journey of Bro. Darren Gristwood.
In a ceremony marked by solemnity and excellent ritual, Bro. Darren was Raised to the Third Degree, attaining the rank of Master Mason.
The Pinnacle of the Craft
For every Freemason, the “Raising” is a profound milestone. It represents the culmination of the three degrees in Craft Freemasonry, completing the journey that began with the Initiation (Entered Apprentice) and continued through the Passing (Fellowcraft).
Becoming a Master Mason is not just a change in rank; it signifies a brother’s full membership into the fraternity. It opens the door to a deeper understanding of Masonic philosophy, the ability to visit other Lodges more freely, and the opportunity to eventually explore other orders and “side degrees” (such as the Royal Arch).
An Evening of Harmony
The ceremony was conducted with the dignity and warmth that Ashley Hill Lodge is known for. The Worshipful Master and his officers delivered the ritual work with sincerity, ensuring that Bro. Darren’s experience was both memorable and meaningful.
It is always a special occasion to see a brother complete his third degree. The atmosphere in the Temple was one of support and attentiveness, reminding us all of the strong fraternal bonds that unite the Lodge.
Celebration at the Festive Board
Following the ceremony, the Brethren retired to the Festive Board to continue the celebrations. As is tradition, the evening was filled with good food, the usual toasts, and the harmonious company that defines our meetings.
It was a chance for members—both new and old—to personally congratulate Bro. Darren on his achievement and to welcome him fully into the fold as a Master Mason.
