A Proud History: Ashley Hill Lodge No. 7861

Founded in a time of renewal and fraternity, Ashley Hill Lodge No. 7861 has stood as a steady presence within Berkshire Freemasonry since its consecration on 18th April 1963. As we reflect on our past, we also celebrate the enduring values that continue to guide us today.

Our Origins

Ashley Hill Lodge was consecrated by RW Bro Lt Col R.H. Ingham Clark, the Provincial Grand Master of Berkshire at the time. The original ceremony took place in the Masonic Hall on High Town Road, Maidenhead. Our founding members named the Lodge after Ashley Hill, a wooded area that many of them could see from their homes. The natural surroundings not only inspired the name but also helped shape our emblem, which features imagery linked to that landscape.

Our Home at Sindlesham

Today, Ashley Hill Lodge meets at the Berkshire Masonic Centre in Sindlesham, just outside Wokingham. This purpose-built facility has become the heart of Freemasonry in the county. For decades, it has been the place where we meet in friendship and brotherhood, conduct our ceremonies, and welcome new members to the Craft.

Moments That Matter

Over the years, Ashley Hill Lodge has celebrated many significant moments. One particularly memorable occasion came in February 2011, when the son of the Worshipful Master at the time was raised to the degree of Master Mason during a regular meeting. That event captured something special about our lodge—how Freemasonry can unite generations and deepen family bonds.

Looking Ahead

As we move forward, Ashley Hill Lodge remains committed to the core principles of Brotherhood, Charity, and Integrity. We continue to welcome men of good character who wish to develop themselves, support others, and be part of something larger than themselves.

If you’re interested in Freemasonry or want to find out more about our lodge, we encourage you to get in touch or come along to one of our open events. Whether you’re new to Freemasonry or looking to reconnect, you’ll find a warm welcome here at Ashley Hill.
